BOXER

2018 – SÃO PAULO, GALERIA CARBONO

While observing a careless shoemaker, Raul Mourão recognized in a stack of empty shoeboxes (hence the title) the playful representation of a dog. Back in his studio, he gathered five wooden blocks and turned his idea into a sculpture—a fake pet specimen, that doesn’t bark or needs to be walked—which he gave to his son, Antonio.

In time, Antonio also became a coauthor of the piece, by reassembling the blocks into new shapes. BOXER is a development of a father and son game that offers infinite recombination. The exhibition’s limited edition is fabricated in a variation of ten wood species; just like with dogs, every piece has its own particular set of characteristics, such as color and weight.
